This filler is tough when dry yet water based so by adding water its consistency can be adjusted to suit a particular job. I used the dark option on mid brown stained and varnished four panel doors to fill shrinkage gaps prior to re-varnishing. It can be left a little proud overnight then the following day cleaned up and levelled off with a damp sponge scourer. This technique avoided any filler sanding damage to the existing varnish finish and saved me loads of time. It’s also great when thinned down significantly for filling open wood grain prior to applying wood dye. I’m a great believer in two part wood fillers for many application but they’re not suitable for every job. I accept you can’t use Filltite Ready Mixed Wood Filler in every situation but for specific jobs like the one set out above its very under rated as far as I’m concerned.
